Retaining Wall and Paver Pictures
Before and After 4

These homeowners in Oakville, MO were looking for a St. Louis hardscape contractor with great hardscape design ideas on how to expand their usable backyard space while replacing this old wooden deck and these old R.R. tie retaining walls. They found the best hardscape contractor in the St. Louis, MO metro area when Agape Retaining Walls, Inc.’s custom hardscape design consultant came out with this custom hardscape vision for the complete transformation of their backyard outdoor living space. The Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. hardscape design called for the new Rockwood retaining wall to be installed 3-4 l.f. back into the hillside and excavation of the left side of their yard. Notice in the pictures the increased usable backyard space these Rockwood Retaining Wall 6” Colonial Stone taupe/black blend retaining walls creates for them. This large terraced wall was the retaining wall solution to the homeowner’s dream to have a larger backyard for their family. The geo-grid used in the retaining wall engineering is a Raugrid 3/3-20. The interlock between the Raugrid, the Rockwood block, and the compacted rock will allow this Rockwood Retaining Wall to retain this hillside for as many decades as the homeowners need.  Also, the Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. custom hardscape design called for the old wood deck to be taken out and replaced by this Rockwood Retaining Wall StoneHedge free standing seat wall with these great looking Rockwood Block columns and these top of the line Belgard Dublin Collection patio pavers providing the custom hardscape finishing touch to this St. Louis hardscape masterpiece.

These homeowners in Sunset Hills, MO already had hired Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. to engineer and install a structural Rockwood Retaining Wall years before to hold up their backyard. So when they were in need of a hardscape design and installation to put the finishing touches on this new addition to their home, they called Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. back into action to see what kind of hardscape solutions our hardscape design consultant would come up with. Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. designed and installed these Rockwood Retaining Wall Colonial taupe/black blend walls to give structural support to these Belgard Dublin Collection patio pavers. Take a good look at the Rockwood Retaining Wall steps coming off the home. The before and after pictures say it all about this hardscape project. The space for the backyard patio area was a blank canvas for our craftsmen to paint this outdoor hardscape patio masterpiece upon. The homeowners love the hardscape design and installation, and to help make sure you pick the right hardscape contractor in St. Louis they wrote a great review for Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. at yellowpages.com under the search term “retaining walls in St. Louis”.

These homeowners in Jefferson Co., MO needed a structural retaining wall to retain these concrete deck piers that had started moving due to a combination of factors including the steep slope of the hillside, the effects of erosion on the hillside, and the weight of the deck itself that put a bearing load on the piers. If you look at the before pictures, you can see the concrete deck piers have actually shifted and would have fallen over time without our structural retaining wall solution. The homeowners called up several retaining wall contractors in the St. Louis metro and Jefferson, Co., MO area and were impressed enough with Agape Retaining Walls, Inc.’s knowledge and experience in retaining wall designs, engineering, and installation that we were chosen to design and engineer the retaining wall solution for their unique dilemma. We designed and installed this great looking Rockwood Retaining Wall using the Rockwood 8” Classic stone. Structural retaining walls that have a bearing load need to be engineered with a lot of geo-grid. For this retaining wall Agape used a Raugrid designed to stabilize backfill and soil by dispersing weight and therefore providing increased bearing load capacity for our structural retaining wall holding up these deck piers on this hillside. Geo-grid is used behind almost all retaining wall systems over 4’ tall. Geogrid is always used in modular block retaining wall systems when the retaining wall design and engineering calls for geo-grid to hold a bearing load that is too great for a simple gravity retaining wall. To find out more about how geogrid works in retaining walls feel free to email or call us. It will be a pleasure for our professional retaining wall design staff to give you retaining wall solutions to your custom retaining wall design needs.

Some of our retaining wall projects at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. are just simple gravity walls like this one in Imperial, MO. We used this Rockwood Retaining Wall Colonial Stone to give the homeowners a great looking decorative retaining wall in the front of their home. This gravity wall was simple to design and install and because it is a Rockwood Retaining Wall less than 4’ in height there was no need for us to use geogrid. When a gravity wall like this one has no bearing load, no geogrid is required for the wall to stand for as many years as needed.

These homeowners in St. Louis County, MO needed to have this old tie retaining wall replaced with a concrete modular block retaining wall system. After taking bids from several retaining wall and landscape contractors from around St. Louis, we at Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. were chosen as the retaining wall contractor to do the job. We installed this very nice looking Rockwood 8” Classic Retaining Wall System. This system consists of the Rockwood Classic 8” straight face stone natural in color, 1” clean rock for the footing and the backfill, along with Stragrid geogrid. This retaining wall is structural at right under 10’ in height therefore it needed to be engineered for St. Louis County plan reviewers to give their approval for the retaining wall permits. In St. Louis County, all retaining walls 6’ in height or taller need to be engineered to receive a retaining wall permit. Agape Retaining Walls, Inc. installed Sono-Tubes right behind the top of the retaining wall to provide a hollow cylinder through the geogrid for the fence post to be placed into. Never allow any contractor to use an augur to dig for fence posts behind a structural retaining wall that has geogrid because the auger could get caught in the geogrid possibly damaging the geogrid or tearing the geogrid from the face of the retaining wall. Always insist that the retaining wall contractor place Sono-tubes like this for any future fence or that the fence contactor hand digs for the post holes so that there is no possibility of geogrid damage.
